昨天陪爸到Nova買NAS. 一問之下原來瞭解的人少之又少.

幸運的讓我找到華碩WL-500g這款, 它包含了
1. 4 LAN + 1WAN 10/100 Ethernet
2. 802.11g wireless AP
3. NAT/Firewall Router
4. USB2.0 Host for external HD and Web Cam
5. WDS (wireless distributuion system)
6. Printer Sharing
這麼多的功能, 只賣NTD$2300元.

回家立刻test其NAS的function (只support FTP)
Performance如下 :

Ethernet NAS performance
upload : 255.68KB
download : 485.6KB/sec

Wireless LAN 802.11G NAS performance
upload : 149.42KB/sec
download : 422.26KB/sec

** 心得 **
1. 以一個消費者來說, "功能"為第一個priority (例如 : 我就是要買有NAS function的東西)

2. 並無暇或太多管道去得知performance高低的情況下, 選擇較有口碑且價差不大的牌子, 應是一般人的priority

3. 華碩這款(WL-500g)與其"純"為 NAS那款, 竟無價差. 當然體積是大許多, 但對大部份人來說並沒差. 並且WL-500g
還多了 :
a. Home gateway/ Router/ Firewall
b. 4 WAN + 1 LAN
c. 可接USB CAM成為Web CAM
d. 可接非2.5"的HD (很重要! 因其HD乃是掛在機器外)
e. Printer Sharing
4. 使用Console (RS-232)去configure router這檔事已正式走入歷史~~

5. 軟體/system業者可發揮的空間仍極大, 想想這已不是 一般的gateway, 其實它已經是一部Linux Server,
可以做的事真的可以說是無遠弗界! 像我就希望它能開放出 Web hosting的功能 ...

6. 其實FTP的file sharing真的不錯用, 使用web 界面, 用起來與網芳差不多. 好處是不用網芳在Internet上
